Lounge much? When your summer days call for water-side leisure and finding respite from the beating sun, these poolside essentials keep you covered, or at the very least, cool.
Welcome to the Nora District, SWEAT440! We have Laura Tomana to thank for whipping us into summer shape.
Trading New York City commercial real estate for South Florida wellness, Laura is a force behind fitness and community-building across the region, applying certifications spanning personal training, Pilates, yoga, and Lagree to help people move, connect, and sweat a little harder.
Because she shares our love of sun soaked adventure and community (do we hear a group fitness beach day?) we thought she would be the perfect fit to remind us how to stay active across our summer travels.
What’s your philosophy or guiding approach when it comes to fitness and well-being?
My approach is that fitness should support your life - not consume it. In my experience, when you take care of your body, everything else in your life elevates too.
Say your summer travels are booked and you want to stay active. How would you translate a Sweat-inspired circuit that suits our jetsetting vibe?
Think circuit-style intervals that keep your heart rate up while building strength, with just enough structure to stay focused but enough flexibility to do it anywhere. I keep this workout with me to do at home, while traveling, and honestly...at the beach! A little ocean background doesn’t hurt.
How can we up the ante or temper the pace contingent on our vacation setting? What if there isn’t a gym in site?
You can get an incredible workout using just your body by adjusting tempo, adding pulses, or increasing time under tension in long holds. I also love using what’s around you: stairs, a chair, a towel for sliders. I’ve even used my groceries for bicep curls and my puppy Paisley for a squat overhead press. It’s all about creativity and making fitness accessible anywhere.
Tell us about your go-to playlist! Set the tone for our sweat sessions.
My playlists are all about energy and momentum. I love a mix of house, remixes, and throwback hits with strong beats…anything that makes you want to move without overthinking it. Think upbeat, slightly edgy, and motivating. The goal is to create a vibe where you’re not watching the clock. You’re just in it.
